FROM THE ARCHIVES: Speaking to Newsnight in 1999, he predicted the internet was going to have "unimaginable" effects on society and "change the state of content" forever

During the conversation, the interviewer offers up a fairly 2-dimensional view of the Internet, as it essentially was at the time. But Bowie asserts, with absolute clarity and assurance, that it will grow into the multifaceted tool necessary for existence that it has now become.
Bowie quite accurately predicts the massive changes to how we consume entertainment and how we interact with the world that have occurred over the past 20 years. His ability to clearly see the future implications of a platform that most people were using as a giant chat room at the time is nothing short of profound.
The philosophical consideration he gives to the questions is phenomenal. Drawing on past histories and cultural shifts with the certainty of a humanities scholar, backing up his assertions and offering a pragmatic perspective of the good and bad outcomes of advancement that is still entirely relevant today.
Not only did he manage to accurately describe the all-encompassing multiverse that was about to burst out of the World Wide Web, he was able to foresee just how much it would change humanity forever. Genius.
