Reeves Gabrels, the New Yorker musician who worked alongside David Bowie on almost all his albums between 1989’s self-titled Tin Machine album and 1999’s hours…, has tantalisingly divulged to I Like Your Old Stuff details of archival Bowie songs yet to see the light of day.
Discussing the new Loving The Alien (1983-1988) set, which will be released on deluxe 11CD and 15LP formats on October 12, Gabrels acknowledged he has a number of favourite Bowie songs that even the most ardent fans have never heard. “There are some unreleased songs,” Gabrels admitted. “I’ve got six songs that David and I wrote on a Dictaphone microcassette that we wrote at his house. There was a song called “Every Last One Of You” we wrote together that’s on there…
“…But I don’t think anyone’s ever going to hear that,” Gabrels added with a laugh.
Loving The Alien (1983-1988) features Gabrels guesting on an overhaul of the 1987 album Never Let Me Down, which has been reworked in accordance with plans devised by Bowie before his 2016 death. “I’m very pleased with what we’ve done with Never Let Me Down - 2018,” Gabrels said.
I Like Your Old Stuff will run the full interview with Gabrels speaking about Loving The Alien (1983-1988), the time the guitarist pissed Bowie off and the plans for further Bowie reissues in early October.
