In anticipation of Sharon Corr’s upcoming solo album, The Fool & the Scorpion arriving next month (more below), we’re going back to where it all started with a selection of The Corrs' biggest hits.
Through the melancholy of the mid-90s, The Corrs blazed a trail of angsty, Celtic-folk-pop like no other and, in thick of the grunge-heavy era, their sound proved an unlikely frontrunner on a global scale.
The Irish family band made up of Corr siblings, Andrea (lead vocals, tin whistle, ukulele), Sharon (violin, keyboards, vocals), Caroline (drums, percussion, piano, vocals) and Jim (guitar, piano, keyboards, vocals), took cues from the bittersweet themes of fellow countrymen The Cranberries, while mixing the slick pop production of classic rock noblemen Fleetwood Mac with their own rousing, violin-driving Irish instrumentation.
The Corrs have released seven studio albums in total and numerous platinum singles. The band went from playing in their aunt’s local pub around the time of their debut release, 1995's Forgiven, Not Forgotten, to packing out venues worldwide on the back of platinum sales just two short years later. Their second album, 1997’s Talk on Corners was the best-selling LP in the UK and the most successful Irish album in UK history!

The Corrs | Runaway
The Corrs’ debut single Runaway was a top ten hit here in Australia in 1995, taking the airwaves by storm with the delicate mix of angelic harmonies and warm string hooks. Aussie alt-rock may have reigned supreme at the time, but this runaway single proved we simply can’t resist a chorus that soars through a tale of true love.
The Corrs | Breathless
Andrea Corr once said Breathless, released on their third studio album Blue in 2000, was the first song the band ever wrote with famed music producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange – who had previously produced albums for Shania Twain, Bryan Adams and Def Leppard among others. She described a “sunny” and effortless process of collaboration that is “very much in the song, because it's kind of high impact and driven and sunny and summery and it's a love song. It's about seduction and how when you're falling in love, you're just enticing that person to go one step further. It's good, good fun."
Breathless cracked number one spot in three countries, including the UK, peaked inside Australia's top ten and many other countries. It seems like “good, good fun" was just what the world was looking for.

The Corrs | Dreams
This cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams also arrived on 1997’s Talk on Corners. The Corrs originally recorded their own sultry Celtic cover version of the classic 1977 hit for Legacy: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, which featured a stack of high-profile artists. Their cover version became a big hit for the band big that they later re-released Talk on Corners with Dreams added to the tracklisting.
