Sad news today as we hear about the passing of New Jersey indie band, The Smithereens, lead singer and songwriter Pat DiNizio has passed away at the age of 62. 

The band who were supported by triple j in the mid-80s released a statement saying:

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pat DiNizio, lead singer and songwriter of the influential New Jersey rock band, The Smithereens - America's Band," on Facebook. "Pat was looking forward to getting back on the road and seeing his many fans and friends. Please keep Pat in your thoughts and prayers."

"Behind The Wall Of Sleep" and "Blood & Roses" were two of the tracks that made it onto Australian radio.
