The Go-Betweens Set For The Sydney Film Festival

Posted

Although they never had a real hit, The Go-Betweens, like the band whose path they followed out of Brisbane, The Saints, as well Melbourne’s The Birthday Party (from whence came Nick Cave, Rowland S Howard and Mick Harvey) and Perth’s The Triffids, have been revered internationally since they first left our shores in the late 1979, after releasing two independent singles.

It took mainstream Australia a while to catch up but we’re definitely there now, and The Go-Betweens: Right Here, a fantastic new promising new documentary from acclaimed director Kriv Stenders (Red Dog) has just been announced as one of the big attractions at this year's Sydney Film Festival.

A trailer reveals that the film will feature interviews with all of the surviving members of the band - Grant McLennan sadly in 2006 - as well as Paul Kelly, Steve Kilbey and music critic/writer and fellow Brisbane trouble maker Clinton Walker, who was present not only for the birth of The Go-Betweens but The Saints before them.

Check out the GoB’s on our ‘Inner City Sound’ playlist alongside The Saints, The Birthday Party, The Triffids, Sunnyboys, Laughing Clowns, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Whirlywirld, The Moodists, Models, Radio Birdman and more..
