Tramps Like Frankie Were Born To Run!

Many would say that Bruce Springsteen's iconic hit "Born To Run" is THE quintissential American pop song for the everyman - perfectly capturing the American dream from the eyes of a young person looking towards life with more questions than answers. It takes you back to high school and that desperate need to get away from wherever you were from - "a runaway American dream". Indeed, Springsteen called Born to Run the dividing line between adolescence and adulthood.

The same would never be said about Frankie Goes To Hollywood or any of their songs. Frankies were a British band with unashamedly gay members who had great success in the UK with their celebration of the debauchery and excess of the 80s. They had songs about nuclear war and songs that were banned for being "overtly sexual in nature". Miles apart.

Well, who woulda thunk it!? Frankies covering "Born To Run". Not exactly the E Street Band, but it kinda suits them – whaddya reckon?

And live! (check the enlightening YouTube comment from Frankie guitarist Brian Nash)
