Needs no explanation really. If only bands were as well thought out today.
Wire’s Rules Of Negative Self-Definition
1977
- No solos
- No decoration
- When the words run out, it stops
- No chorusing out
- No rocking out
- Keep to the point
- No Americanisms
This commentary probably refers to anarchic debut Pink Flag
But if you’re going to buy one Wire album make it the stunning ‘154’
In particular the classic Map Ref. 41 N 93 W what a tune! And the map reference apparently is in a pasture, south of the road, with cattle in it as shown below thanks to Google maps, which makes it even more brilliant as it’s mental.
One principle to add: No songs where you have to add “La La La” to fill up the lines you cant think of words for, even if it helps you get back to the chorus. But maybe they meant that in point (3).
