The Distillers were every teenage punk fan’s fantasy band, and, for an aspiring Aussie chick rocker, Coral Fang (2003) was life-changing. Brody Dalle was an effortless, baby-faced rock God with a voice so rich in emotional sincerity, words were secondary to the story. The 15-year-old rebel in me is bursting out from every part of my DNA with today's news that the band will be hitting the studio to record a new, full-length album this coming April!
With her scruffy, jet-black hair and heavy eyeliner, clad in leather pants and pure nonchalance – Brody Dalle was the caustic, fearless, powerhouse Aussie teen who took on the world and won. Tough, talented and effortlessly cool as f***. She was the perfect answer to the sugar-coated American pop princesses reigning supreme at the time.
Ruling at the forefront of the California punk scene in the early 2000s, the ride was short lived when the band announced their split in 2006, due to infighting and general unhappiness. At just 27, Dalle had already packed in decades worth of achievements on her accelerated trajectory, a little time to take it all in was undoubtedly necessary.
But now, Distillers fans unite – Our Aussie Punk Princess is officially back!!
Brody Dalle’s lyrics are the work of a truly dark and poetic wordsmith, worthy of literary publication. With the addition of the wisdom that can only come from life experience, I’m literally waiting on the edge of my seat to hear what this profound artist has to say this time around. Her voice, raw and guttural, fueled by pure emotion, is precisely the strength women of the world need right now.
Check out this video of "The Hunger" live at Redding Festival - I rest my case.
Three 2019 live dates are confirmed for the band so far: Columbus, Ohio's Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival in May and two U.K. dates to follow with the Reading Festival and Leeds Festival in August.
Praying to all the rock God’s some Aussie dates will be added soon!
Other cool facts about Brody Dalle: She is married to Queens of the Stoneage frontman, Josh Homme with whom she shares two adorable children– yep, her coolness actually is limitless!
