American new wave band Devo originally released "Whip It" in 1980, but it wasn't until the release of their Dev-o: Live EP in 1981 which included "Whip It" that saw them reach the top of the Aussie charts. It peaked at #1 and remained in the charts for 26 consecutive weeks, and became ingrained in our brains forever. This was due largely to the consistent radio support from 2JJ ahead of their Australian tour.
The song is considered one of the greatest of the 80s and was Devo's biggest commercial hit globally.
The band returned to Australia for a performance on Countdown.
Fans of new wave from the early 80s will enjoy our 'Shake Some Action' playlist which also includes The Cure, Joy Division and Talking Heads.
